Come Ride the Pink Pig!
For two months this holiday season, Priscilla, the Rich's-Macy's Pink Pig will carry on an Atlanta family tradition beneath a 170-foot, 1950s-themed Pink Pig Tent at the Lenox Square upper-level parking deck.
Introduced in 1953, Priscilla, the original Pink Pig was an amusement ride inside the Rich's in Downtown Atlanta that gave kids a killer view of the department store's toy department. The ride eventually became so popular at Christmastime that it was moved in the '60s to the building's rooftop (along with a second pig, named Percival), where it rode around the "Great Tree." When the Downtown Rich's closed, the Pink Pig became part of the Festival of Trees at the World Congress Center, before being retired in 1996 to its permanent home at the Atlanta History Center.
Now, in honor of its 50th anniversary, the Pink Pig is being reborn at the Rich's-Macy's at Lenox Square. The 170-foot ride (on top of the parking garage) will take children (and nostalgic parents hoping to recapture a slice of their own childhood) through a life-sized storybook containing characters such as the original Pink Pig, Green Dog, Richie Bear and more. Staying true to tradition, everyone who rides will receive an "I Rode the Pink Pig" sticker. -- Bret Love
